Environmental Earth Systems Science (EESS)

The E2S2 Programme is a flagship programme of the Asian School of the Environment that was established in 2014. E2S2 integrates earth and environmental life sciences, ecology, engineering and technology, human ecology, humanities and the social sciences to address key issues of the environment and sustainability. Students who choose the E2S2 Programme will gain a strong background in quantitative skills, modern computing techniques, and core environmental earth systems with the knowledge of the basic sciences.

The E2S2 Programme offers 3 specializations:
1) Geosciences
2) Ecology and Ecosystems
3) Society and the Earth Systems

Environmental Earth Systems Science and Public Policy And Global Affairs (ESPP)

The ESPP is a new double major programme, combining the courses from ASE and SSS. Students admitted to this multidisciplinary course will develop a strong background in qualitative environmental earth system science, public affairs and international relations. This joint programme gives students the opportunity to build complementary skills that would empower the next generation of public policy makers with the tools required to face the challenges of today’s rapidly changing world

Students admitted in the ESPP programme are automatically enrolled for the Society specialization.

GEOSCIENCES

This specialization focuses on the study of the solid Earth, including its composition, structure, topography and different rock types to understand Earth processes. Coursework is designed to prepare students for careers in geotechnical and environmental consulting and natural resource exploration and management. Students are also prepared for graduate studies in the geological sciences.

ECOLOGY

Students who choose the Ecology Specialisation will take an expanded group of courses in biology and ecology to learn more about the biological and environmental aspects of life on Earth. Students who complete this specialisation may choose careers in NGOs that work in Singapore and the region, government agencies, biotechnology firms, and research. This specialization requires chemistry courses that have H2 Chemistry pre-reqs.

The Society and the Earth System specialization includes interdisciplinary coursework in the both the social and the earth sciences, This gives students an understanding of how humans affect the environment, and the complex issues of sustainable societies. Students will be prepared for careers in environmental planning, policy, and management. Students will also be prepared for graduate programmes in urban planning and development, environmental/public policy.
